Dr Olubanji Akinola holds a PhD and a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada; a Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Studies (Political Science) from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, Switzerland; a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Honours) in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria; and has studied as a graduate exchange student at the Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea. With more than twenty (20) peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications in the past five years, Dr Akinola has, and continues to make, significant contributions to knowledge in his areas of specialization in African politics, social protection, governance, and the political economy of development. His 2015 journal article titled, “Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria: Between Islamic Fundamentalism, Politics, and Poverty” (African Security, 8.1: 1-29), currently ranks amongst the four most read articles published in African Security since 2008, and number one among articles published in the past five years in the same journal.
